Itineraries

Day 1: Bagamoyo Day Trip from Dar es Salaam

07:00 AM – Departure from Dar es Salaam:Morning Journey.

Depart from Dar es Salaam and head north along the coast toward the historic town of Bagamoyo (approximately a 2-hour drive).

09:00 AM – Arrival & Kaole Ruins:Ancient History.

Arrive in Bagamoyo and kick off your historical exploration at the Kaole Ruins. From 09:10 AM to 09:40 AM, wander through the 13th-century Islamic mosques and ancient tombs while learning about their deep archaeological significance.

09:50 AM – Historic Bagamoyo Church:Cultural Heritage.

Visit the historic Catholic Mission and Church built in 1868. Explore the sacred shrine and cemetery built by formerly enslaved people, and discover the critical role this site played in regional East African history.

10:30 AM – The Old Boma:Colonial Era.

Stop by The Old Boma, the iconic German colonial administrative headquarters. Hear fascinating stories about its architectural history, its role during the colonial era, and its standing today.

11:00 AM – Traditional Swahili Lunch:Midday Break.

Take a break to enjoy a delicious, authentic lunch at a local restaurant, featuring traditional Tanzanian cuisine and coastal Swahili flavors.

12:15 PM – TaSUBa (College of Arts):Local Arts & Music.

Visit the famous TaSUBa (Chuo cha Sanaa). Learn about the preservation of traditional Tanzanian arts and music, and enjoy live student performances or rehearsals if available.

01:00 PM – Bagamoyo Caravan Serai Museum:Historical Insights.

Explore the prominent local museum documenting the East African caravan routes and the harrowing history of the transatlantic slave trade. Afterward, view the nearby historical landmarks, including the landmark Anglican Church of the Holy Cross.

02:15 PM – Beach Relaxation & Local Markets:Leisure Time.

Stroll through vibrant local markets to shop for handmade crafts or unwind along the scenic Bagamoyo beach line for photos, sea breezes, and leisure.

03:15 PM – Return Journey to Dar es Salaam:Late Afternoon.
