Day 1: Bagamoyo Day Trip from Dar es Salaam
Morning
- 7:00 AM: Depart from Dar es Salaam heading north towards Bagamoyo
- 9:00 AM: Arrive in Bagamoyo and start your tour
First Stop: Kaole Ruins
- 9:10 AM – 9:40 AM: Explore the ancient Islamic mosque and ruins from the 13th century, learning about their historical significance
Next: Bagamoyo Church
- 9:50 AM – 10:20 AM: Visit the historic church built in 1868, explore the cemetery and shrine built by formerly enslaved people, and learn about its role in regional history
Then: The Old Boma
- 10:30 AM – 10:50 AM: View the remnants of the German colonial administrative building and hear stories about its history and current condition
Midday: Lunch Break
- 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant with traditional Tanzanian cuisine
Afternoon
Chuo cha Sanaa (College of Arts)
- 12:15 PM – 12:45 PM: Visit the arts college, explore student performances if available, and learn about traditional arts and music
Bagamoyo Museum
- 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM: Discover exhibits on the transatlantic slave trade, relics, and the history of Bagamoyo as a trading and slavery hub. Check out the nearby Anglican Church of the Holy Cross
Relax and explore
- 2:15 PM – 3:00 PM: Stroll through local markets or relax at Bagamoyo beach for photos and leisure
Return Journey
- 3:15 PM: Depart back to Dar es Salaam
