4-Day Wildebeest Migration Calving Season Itinerary

Day1: Arusha to Ndutu (Southern Serengeti)

Meet and greet with your private guide and 4×4 safari vehicle at your hotel in Arusha in the morning. Head towards the Ndutu region on a scenic 5.5-hour drive covering approximately 260 km. Two hours into the drive, you will enter the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where you will notice the landscape transform from hilly forests into plain, green grasslands. Upon reaching Ndutu, begin a half-day game drive with a convenient stop for a picnic lunch. Sweeping grasslands cover the region, gradually fading into the Serengeti, and form a crucial part of the route for the annual migration of over 2 million wildebeests, thousands of zebras, antelopes, and gazelles. During the calving season between December and April, the fertile plains turn into calving grounds and nurseries, attracting hordes of predators prying on vulnerable young wildebeest. Crested with Ndutu Lake and Lake Masek, these waterholes offer plenty of wildlife activity, and Ndutu is also home ground for six species of big cats (leopard, lion, cheetah, caracal, serval, and wildcat). The action-packed game drive concludes late in the evening around 5:00 PM, after which you will head to your accommodation for check-in, dinner, and a restful night.

After breakfast at your camp, you will head out for an immersive full-day game drive amidst the never-ending plain grasslands. Sweeping grasslands cover the region, gradually fading into the Serengeti, and form a crucial part of the route for the annual migration of over 2 million wildebeests, thousands of zebras, antelopes, and gazelles. Between December and April, the fertile plains turn into calving grounds and nurseries for the great migration, attracting hordes of predators prying on vulnerable young wildebeest. Crested with Ndutu Lake and Lake Masek, these waterholes offer plenty of wildlife activity, and Ndutu is also home ground for six species of big cats (leopard, lion, cheetah, caracal, serval, and wildcat). You will also keep an eye out for massive granite “Kopjes” that provide shelter to diverse flora and fauna. A picnic lunch will be enjoyed during the day-long game drive itself. The eventful day comes to an end with a heavy dinner and a good night’s rest in your accommodation.

Day 3:Serengeti (Ndutu) Hot Air Balloon Safari to Ngorongoro Area

Float silently above the savannah as the sun rises, taking in a bird’s-eye view of the breathtaking landscapes and wildlife movements below. After landing, celebrate your flight with a special bush breakfast. Afterward, return briefly to camp or meet your safari vehicle to depart for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area with a picnic lunch en route. The Ngorongoro Crater is the largest collapsed volcanic crater in the world and has fourteen kilometers of isolated natural beauty, surrounded by a ring of extinct volcanoes and a floor dotted with watering holes sheltering some 30,000 animals. The eventful day comes to an end with a heavy dinner and a good night’s rest at your lodge.

Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater Tour and Return to Arusha

After early breakfast, you will make an early descent at around 6:30 AM into the crater floor. The Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest inactive, intact, and unfilled volcanic caldera. It has a massive floor of about 260 sq km with a depth of over 2,000 feet. The 5-hour game drive on the crater floor will show you a lot of animal action, so keeping your camera ready is definitely recommended. The African elephant, buffalo, black rhino, hippos, hyenas, cheetahs, and lions are found in plenty. Post the picnic lunch at the beautiful hippo pool, you will begin a steep ascent to the top exit of the crater. This is the last leg of your safari, with a 4-hour drive left to Arusha. You will be dropped off at your preferred location in Arusha by 6:00 PM in the evening. With an incredible experience and loads of memories to cherish, this is the time you bid goodbye to your team
