Q: What is the best time to visit Gombe and Mahale?

The best time for chimpanzee trekking is during the dry season (June to October). during this time, the chimpanzees tend to stay on the lower slopes, making the trek easier and shorter. In the wet season, they move higher up the mountains.

Q: Is there an age limit for Chimpanzee Trekking?

Yes. According to Tanzania National Park regulations, the minimum age for chimpanzee trekking is 15 years old. This is strictly enforced to protect the primates from human diseases.

Q: How difficult is the trek?

It can be moderate to strenuous. You should be in good physical condition as you may be hiking through thick forests and steep terrain for 1 to 4 hours to find the chimpanzees.

Q: How do I get to the Western Circuit?

The easiest way is to fly. There are scheduled flights from Arusha or Dar es Salaam to Kigoma (for Gombe) or Mpanda/Katavi. For Mahale, we arrange charter flights or private boat transfers from Kigoma.
