Day 1: Into Lushoto
Leave from Arusha, Moshi or Dar es salaam in the morning at 07:30 hrs after breakfast, transfer to Mullers Mountain Lodge in the West Usambara Mountains, arriving in time for lunch. You will spend the afternoon exploring the trails around the Muller’s lodge.
Day 2: Irente Viewpoint tour (4 to 6 hours)
This most famous viewpoint in the Usambara mountains is just an hour’s walk from Lushoto. From the viewpoint you see the village of Mazinde almost 1,000 meters below you. On the way back you pass the village of Irente juu, where you will visit the crossbreeding and soil conservation projects at Mr. Mwindadi’s hamlet. The trip can be extended with visits to a nearby waterfall and the viewpoints of Kambe and Kwa Mkeke. Dinner and overnight will be at Muller’s Lodge.
Day 3:Lushoto/ Mkomazi National Park
Transfer by road to Mkomazi national park, with great scenery and a pleasant picnic lunch stop next to the Pangani River. Shortly after lunch you turn off the main road and traverse the South Pare Mountains to Zange Gate and into the Reserve. Begin the day with a walking safari, accompanied by an armed ranger. Dinner and overnight will be at the campsite/Elephant hotel.
Day 4: Mkomazi National Park/Moshi Town
Morning after breakfast visit the site of two highly endangered species, the charismatic black rhino and sociable African wild dog, both of which were successfully reintroduced in the 1990s. Nomadic by nature, wild dog might be seen almost anywhere in the park, but black rhino are restricted to a fenced sanctuary, ensuring their safe keeping for future generations enjoyment and prosperity. In the afternoon transfer to Moshi Town on the slope of Mount Kilimanjaro for dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 5:Materuni Waterfalls
After breakfast begin your day about 8:00 a.m., when you are picked up at your hotel and drive 45 minutes through the countryside. Start hike along a small canalin the rainforest, passing rural farms en route and observing beautiful flowers, coffee plants and banana trees. The walk will brings you to the Materuni Falls. After lunch your guide will take you for a walk above the falls, into the Kilimanjaro rainforest, observing more flora and opefully, some monkeys or other wildlife and great panoramic views from an altitude of between 1’900 metre to 2’400 meteres above sea level. Visits to the ancient hiding caves used during Chagga Maasai wars blacksmiths using traditional methods. This is a pleasant one day trip that encompasses a hike, a beautiful falls, rainforest flora and fauna,and a cultural experience — away from large groups of tourists! Overnight stay will be at the hotel.
Day 6: Moshi Town/Dar es Salaam
After breakfast transfer back to Dar es Salaam, where you will arrive early afternoon and drop off at the seaport, airport or hotel.
