Udzungwa is the perfect place for linking and climbing with trails leading through rain forests and long escarpments its centerpiece is the Sanje River, which reinvents itself as a spectacular waterfall, plunging 170 m through the forest to land in the mists of the valley below.
Udzungwa is the largest and most biodivese range of a chain of forest swathed Tanzanian mountains known collectively as the Eastern Arch.This archipelago of isolated massifs has been dubbed the Africa Galapagos for its treasure trove of endemic plants and animals,most familiarly the delicate Africa violet.The Eastern arc ancient crystalline mountains were formed more than 200 million years ago. Geological changes caused the rising of the central plateau, now the Tanzania/Kenya Highlands, and the formation of the Rift valley.
Udzungwa Mountains National Park is one of Tanzania’s most outstanding, pristine, paradise and unique exciting wilderness mountains forested with greatest attitudinal range of forest. It is one of thirty-four “World Biodiversity Hotspot” and one of 200 WWF Eco region of global critical importance.
Size: Udzungwa Mountains National Park covers an area of 1,990 square kilometers.(770sq Miles)
Location: 350km /215 miles from Dar es Salaam.
