Don’t monkey around – go to Arusha National Park!
Arusha National Park (137 sq Km) – Most noteworthy – its Scenery…
In spite of its proximity to Arusha town Arusha National Park is often overlooked. It offers a diversity of habitats, from open lakes and undulating grassland to Afro-montane forest, moorland and swamp. Arusha National Park is a true spectacle.
Mount Meru dominates the scenery, an extinct volcano with an altitude of 4,566 metres is easily accessible. Game drives across Arusha National Park’s undulating savanna also offer splendid views of Kilimanjaro. Kili’s summit, just 50Km away to the East, often emerges from cloud in the late afternoon.
Most notable for lush landscapes and splendid scenery, Arusha National Park is ideal for game drive and hiking. Finally, Arusha National Park is a good start to any safari holiday. A half day visit before leaving for the airport is also popular.
Arusha National Park – Flamingo, bird life, savanna game and various primates…
Game viewing is not as varied as in other Northern Circuit parks. Elephant and leopard are scarce and “the Big Five” are not all present, lion and rhino are altogether absent. However, getting up close to huge flocks of flamingo is a certainty here. Birding is spectacular in Arusha NP, a haven for hobby ornithologists. Lovers of beautiful scenery, varied biotopes and nature in general, will find much to their liking in Arusha National Park.
Above all, the primates are of great interest here. Baboons and vervet monkeys are frequently observed. Yet, it is mainly colobus and blue monkeys that make people, like the flamingos, flock to this park. Walking through forest with black and white colobus swinging through the canopy is truly a wonder. To study a blue monkey at close range is a great joy and an experience worth telling the folks back home.
A multitude of hiking trails will give you a chance to get up close to the primates. Other animals too, such as buffalo, giraffe and wart hogs will be just meters away. Armed guards accompany you, keeping you safe at all times.
In addition to short hikes on the forested foothills of mount Meru we offer longer treks. Such as our three day ascent of Mount Meru (see here).
