Serengeti needs no explanation. It is perhaps the most exciting safari destination in the world. But the other national parks in northern Tanzania are equally beautiful, each with a very different landscape and a wide diversity of wildlife and nature. You may well see what you do not see in one park elsewhere. And this package has a cherry on top! Zanzibar – is full of eastern promise, culture, and history!
Our 2 Week packages usually show 11 days but can include an additional day at either the beginning (if you arrive late evening) or at the end (in case you leave early morning). The additional day includes the extra cost of the overnight stay close to the airport. We can add one or more days at any point (extra cost) on any of our packages – if you want to see more, do more, or relax more. Tip: an extra day in Arusha would allow you to tour Arusha Town and visit Arusha National Park at the foot of Mount Meru with views of Kilimanjaro.
Click here for an almost identical itinerary. Still, instead of flying to Zanzibar, you drive to the Usambara Mountains, stay overnight there, then drive to Dar es Salaam and take a boat or flight to Zanzibar. You have one less day in Zanzibar.
Day 0: Arusha - for parties arriving late evening (small additional cost).
Meet and greet at Kilimanjaro Airport on the evening you arrive and transfer to your accommodation.
Day 1: Arusha to Lake Manyara National Park
We leave after breakfast (if you came in on day 0) or directly from the airport (with breakfast in Arusha) if you arrive early. We head off with lunch boxes to Lake Manyara for an afternoon and evening game drive inside the national park. After the game drive, we take you back to your accommodation for dinner and a good night’s sleep.
Day 2: Lake Manyara to Serengeti National Park
Early morning we set out towards Serengeti National Park via Olduvai Gorge. You will visit the gorge’s museum, where you will join a lecture about its exhibits and archaeological discoveries. Then drive to Serengeti with game viewing en route and inside the park until evening.
Day 3: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater Tour.
Up early for an early morning game drive before returning to your accommodation for a late breakfast. We then leave with lunch boxes and drive to Ngorongoro Crater Rim. Plenty of game viewing on the way.
Day 4: Full day Ngorongoro Crater Tour.
Early breakfast on this day to head down into the crater for a full-day game drive. Inside this beautiful caldera are around 25,000 animals, including the big five. We break for lunch at the picnic site and continue the game drive until late evening.
Day 5: A Culture Tour & Leisure break Day to Tarangire.
A morning walk with a local guide in Mto wa Mbu, visiting rice fields, banana plantations, a local market, a primary school, and an orphanage. A local family will prepare and serve you a scrumptious meal at their home in the village. Straight after lunch, we drive you to a Maasai boma (village), where you will be amazed at their charm and hospitality. Spontaneous Maasai dance and chanting provide you with an authentic tribal cultural experience you will never forget.
Day 6: Full Day Game Drive in Tarangire National Park.
Off to an early start after breakfast to take advantage of animal movements in the early morning. Tarangire’s dry, undulating savanna is dotted with acacias in open spaces. A scenic ride with the chance of exciting game sightings. A picnic lunch on a viewpoint overlooking the Tarangire River will provide views of much wildlife, such as elephants, many gazelles and antelope, and other surprises. Return to your accommodation in the evening, in time for dinner.
Day 7:Tarangire Park to Arusha airport to Flight to Zanzibar Stone Town.
After breakfast, leave with your picnic lunch for a half-day game drive in Tarangire National Park. The Park derived its name from the Tarangire River, which rises in the highlands of Central Tanzania and winds its way through the game sanctuary. The river beguilingly lures the herds of plains migrants from the desiccated surrounding area to its shrunken – but permanent – brackish waters during the dry season. During the dry season, the Tarangire pools are clotted with thirsty migrants, and the elephants begin to dig for underground streams in the dry riverbed. Tarangire National Park is said to have the highest recorded number of breeding bird species for any habitat in the world. The afternoon after lunch, drive to Arusha airport for your evening flight to Zanzibar, which leaves at 15:20. On arrival in Zanzibar at 16:35, you will be picked up by our guide and drive to the hotel for a shower. Then your local guide from Kanuth Adventure Safari will pick you up and take you to Forodhani Garden, where you can test Zanzibar spice food.
Day 8: Zanzibar Stone Town and Prison Island.
After breakfast, depart for a guided town safari. This safari takes you through the narrow streets of Old stone town, where history stands still. With visits to the House of Wonders, the Palace Museum (People’s Palace), Dr Livingstone’s House, and the Arab Fort, it is a fascinating look at the essence of Zanzibar. You will see Zanzibar’s bustling market, winding alleyways, ornately carved and studded doors, two cathedrals, and mosques! You will have free time in the afternoon to explore further on your own or relax. Lunch is to be served at the restaurant in town. Take a boat to Prison Island. You will also have the opportunity to see big tortoises, some of which are over 100rys old, and different species of birds. Late afternoon transfer to Uroa beach for relaxation and overnight.
Day 9: Relaxation at the beach in Zanzibar.
Rest and relax at your beach in your hotel.
Day 10: Your Choice Day! Rest & Relaxation – Beach, or another tour (at extra cost)
On your last full day on Zanzibar Island, you have a choice. There are so many exciting sites in Zanzibar, such as a Dolphin tour, a full-day Safari Blue tour, Snorkeling, Scuba Diving, etc. We can customize these activities by additional cost based on your request.
Day 11:Zanzibar Spice tour & Jozani Forest to Dar es salaam - Home
After breakfast, depart from the hotel and transfer to Kizimbani Village for a spice tour. You will be able to see spices like Cloves, Cinnamon, Black pepper, Nutmeg, and turmeric root growing in the plantations. Other tropical fruits such as jack fruit, custard, apple, Rambutan, and Carambola can also be seen and tasted. Furthermore, you will see plants like the Henna bush, Lipstick tree, and Lemongrass. After lunch, proceeds with your tour of Jozani forest for the tour at forest. While in Jozani Forest, you will spot various primates like the Red Colobus Monkey; combine this tour with a visit to the Butterfly centre. Zanzibar Butterfly centre is a popular tourist attraction in Zanzibar, which features a live display of Tanzania Butterflies. In the afternoon, drive to the Rock restaurant for hot lunch before you transfer to the ferry station for your evening boat back to Dar es Salaam. On arrival at Dar es Salaam, you are picked up and transferred to your hotel, home, or airport. Evening you will be transferred to the airport for your evening flight or boat to Dar es Salaam, ready to connect with your international flight back home.
