Day 1: Arusha – Tarangire National Park
Pick up from the agreed point in Arusha and depart with your picnic lunch for an evening game drive in Tarangire National Park. Tarangire National Park covered an area of 2,600 sq. km and was established in 1970. The park has numerous baobab trees that will primarily catch your attention. The Park derived its name from the Tarangire River that rises in the highlands of Central Tanzania and winds its way through the game sanctuary. The river beguilingly lures the herds of plains migrants from the desiccated surrounding area to its shrunken – but permanent – brackish waters during the dry season. The animals come by thousands from as far north as the shores of Lake Natron to the bank of this river, significantly swelling the resident population with wildebeest, zebra, eland, elephant, hartebeest, buffalo, and fringe-eared Oryx. During the dry season, the Tarangire pools are clotted with thirsty migrants, and the elephants begin to dig for underground streams in the dry riverbed. Tarangire National Park is said to have the highest recorded number of breeding bird species for any habitat in the world.
Day 2: Full day Lake Manyara Game drive-Treetop walkway and Culture Program
After breakfast, drive to Lake Manyara Manyara National Park via Mto-wa Mbu Village with a picnic lunch for the morning day game drive in Lake Manyara National Park, which packs a lot of diversity into a small area, is the only park in the area that is green all year round. The park also offers a spectacular view of the Great Rift Valley, and the fig forest here is a good place to see monkeys and some of the 350 species of birds that have been recorded here. With luck, you may spot the tree-climbing lions for which the park is famous.
You will also do the Treetop Walkway. This 370m airwalk starts with a short boardwalk that gradually rises from ground level up through the forest’s canopy. You walk over a series of suspension bridges with thick netting on the sides and reach a height of 18m off the ground. Each of the bridges ends on a viewing deck situated around tree trunks. These treetop platforms are perfect places to stop and enjoy life in the canopy amongst butterflies, monkeys, and birds. Evening drive to Mto wa Mbu Village for a cultural tourism program. Here you will have a chance to experience the real-life of local tribes which live in this area by visiting their banana and rice plantations, Primary schools, Orphanage, Local Market, Carvings, and families.
.
Day 3: Lake Manyara National Park to Ngorongoro Crater
After breakfast, descend to the Crater floor for a game drive. Ngorongoro Crater is the largest collapsed volcanic crater in the world and has fourteen kilometres of isolated natural beauty. A ring of extinct volcanoes surrounds Ngorongoro Crater and the floor, dotted with watering holes, shelters some 30,000 animals. You can expect to see lions, elephants, Zebras, Hippos, Flamingos, Jackals, Rhinos, Antelopes, and many birds. The birds seen here include eagle, vulture, and flamingos in the Crater Lake, stork, bats, giant vulture, sacred ibis, kori bustard, blacksmith plover, long-necked heron, and the cattle eagle. Picnic lunch will take place at the hippo pool. Ascend to the rim overnight.
Day 4: Visit Oldupai George -Shifting Sand to Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, En-route to Serengeti via the historic site of Olduvai Gorge (The Cradle of Mankind), where the world-famous archaeologist, Dr Leakey, discovered the remains of the early man; after visiting the site and the small museum there, you will drive to the north of Oldupai where the remarkable shifting sand also known as black dune, composed of volcanic ash from Oldonyo Lengai, is being blown slowly westwards across the plains, at the rate of about 17 meters per year. Some 9 meters high and 100 meters long in its curve. This is an impressive and fascinating experience that occurs throughout the year and something to see if you have a chance to visit the Ngorongoro. You proceed to central Serengeti. You will have an evening game drive in the endless plains of the Serengeti.
Day 5: Serengeti Seronera Area to North Serengeti Lobo
Early morning game drive in Seronerar area, Come back to the camp for a full breakfast, Then leave with your lunch box, drive to the north of Serengeti with the game on the route. A non-migrating game like an elephant, buffalo, gazelle, zebra, lion, leopard, and cheetah can be seen all year round. The game viewing is excellent, and you can follow the game for long periods without seeing other vehicles – truly one of the forgotten corners of the Serengeti Plains. Magnificent river trees can be found along the river lines, and birdlife such as kingfishers and fish eagles can be found here.
Day 6 : Full day North Serengeti Mara River
Early breakfast, then leaves with your lunch box far north of the Serengeti Park at Mara River with the game on the route. In August and September, you can see the herds spread out across the northern Serengeti, where the Mara River provides the migration with its most serious obstacle. This river gushes north of Serengeti from Kenya’s adjacent Maasai Mara Game Reserve. Watching the frantic herds of the wildebeest migration crossing the Mara River can be spectacular; there are often scenes of great panic and confusion. It’s common to see herds cross the Mara River north one day and then back south a few days later.
Day 7: Serengeti to Lake Natron – Hike Oldonyo Lengai Mountain
Early breakfast, then leave with your packed lunch to Lake Natron. Evening visit Lake Natron, one of the world’s most alkaline lakes. Home to millions of tiny crustaceans, the lake is a haven for thousands of lesser flamingos and is one of the most important flamingo breeding grounds on earth. The area around the lake is dry and desolate. The strangely beautiful landscape is the attraction in this area. After a strenuous walk up the stream, we reach the river’s source in the cascading waterfalls that gush out of the mountains. It is an excellent swim in the river and under the waterfalls for a nice cool-down from the hot sun. There may be baboons or other wildlife in the gorge. You will have an early dinner and go to sleep. At midnight we will wake up and transfer to the mountain where you will ascend Ol Doinyo Lengai, 2878m (9650ft), in the heart of Maasai country and locally regarded as a sacred mountain.
Day 8 : Lake Natron to Arusha Town
Descend mid-morning to the foothills of Ol Doinyo Lengai, where your safari vehicles will transfer you to the campsite for a shower and brunch. After that, start the drive back to Arusha, where your tour will end at the hotel of your choice or airport.
