Rwanda is a small landlocked country bordered by the Democratic Republic of Congo to the west, Burundi to the south, Tanzania to the east, and Uganda to the north. It has a total area of about 26,338 sq km and is one of the most densely populated countries in Africa.

Rwanda is a marvelous country but most of its entire have populace recently been known to be tolerant and forgiving after going through a period of genocide.

While in Rwanda, you can visit; Parc National des Volcans €“ home to the endangered Mountain Gorillas, Akagera National park €“ renown for its good collection of various flora and fauna that include Elephants and Hippos and Nyungwe Forest that is famous for harboring colobus  monkeys. Driving in Rwanda is on the right-hand side of the road as opposed to Uganda where it is on the left.

Rwanda is GMT +2 hrs and is gifted with a rich culture. French, Kinya-Rwanda and English are the most widely spoken languages.

Accommodation choices:

Gorilla’s Nest Lodge is a modest tourist-class facility with simple rooms and a modest restaurant. This Gorilla Safari lodge is located in a forest near the little village of Kinigi. It is the nearest to the national park, resulting in less than a 20 minute drive to the area where the trekking begins.

The Kivu Sun Hotel is a lovely, first-class resort hotel spectacularly located on the shores of Lake Kivu with striking views of the distant volcanoes. The hotel is located in the bustling town of Gisenyi on the border with the Congo. The drive to the national park is around 80 – 90 minutes over good roads.

Virunga Lodge is an exclusive, luxury ‘Bush Home’ located on a spectacular hill overlooking the Virguna Mountains, providing outstanding comforts in a breath-taking setting. The drive to the national park is just over an hour.
